Description

Pitalito Colombia Supremo Green Coffee Beans Pitalito,

the second most populous municipality in Huila, Colombia, has a humid climate with temperatures typically ranging between 18-21ºC throughout the year, except during May, June, and July when the temperature drops to 12-14ºC. This coffee is called El Tiple, after the Tiple instrument used in traditional Colombian music. Genuine Origin has created this blend to make Colombia’s green coffee more accessible to roasters, exploring the country’s unique micro-climates and flavor profiles. The coffees were all obtained from small, family-owned farms at altitudes ranging from 1,500-1,800masl. This coffee features deep, dark chocolate notes along with caramel and roasted hazelnut flavors. A subtle hint of floral notes adds complexity. The medium body and acidity make it ideal for those seeking a strong, sweet, satisfying cup.

The Huila Coffee Region

Huila region is a popular choice for Colombian coffee enthusiasts due to its consistently high-quality green coffee beans, which often receive awards. The coffee from Huila is known for its delicate cup profile, boasting bright acidity, sweetness, and a fragrant aroma. This renowned coffee region benefits from its proximity to the equator and its fertile volcanic soil. Coffee from Huila is characterized by its distinctive fruity and caramel notes, sweet acidity, and intense aromas. The region experiences two harvests, with the main crop taking place between September and December, and the mitaca crop occurring between April and May or June.

Supremo – Colombian Coffee Quality

The Colombia Coffee Federation uses screen size and the number of defects to assess green coffee quality. In Colombia, specialty green coffee beans must score above 80 points, have zero primary defects, and no more than five secondary defects in a 500g sample. The Supremo classification means the green coffee beans have a screen size of 17, which indicates that they have passed through a sifter with 18/64-inch wide holes. Although larger-sized beans are often associated with higher quality, screen size is not the sole indicator of coffee quality. Another classification for coffee quality is European Process (EP), signifying that there are no more than four defects per 1,000 coffee beans. This is part of the sorting process before the coffee is packed and shipped.
